Summary

Since the 1950s, David Farquhar has been recognised a significant figure in the field of New Zealand composition. A supremely practical musician, the composer is intensely concerned with music as performance: ‘Music exists in performance. The sound of music is – now.... there is a physical involvement in the now of the performance; and while the performer’s real body is actively involved, so too are the composer’s and the listener’s imaginary bodies.’
